Martha decides she must have a pet but could not figure out which one. But when she looks in the catalog and spots a moose for order, she is sure that the moose is her pet! When he arrives they have so much fun doing all sorts of "M" tasks such as sipping maple tea, carving M's into mulberry trees, going to the malls and movies, and more! Realizing that having one moose is fun, she decides to order many, many more! And the fun continues... until she has too many moose. They eventually run amok by misplacing her mittens, muddying her dress, misusing her markers and other "M" type catastrophes! Has Martha really ordered too many moose?!?
This was a wonderful children's book that excels in every possible way. Highlighting different activities that Martha and the moose do, this is a great way to teach the letter "M" to your children. It also speaks of a great lesson pertinent to kids: moderation (another M word). It teaches kids to be happy with what they have and to quit trying to get more.
The writing is flawless, written with a nice rhyming pattern and the illustrations are hilarious. At one point, Martha's eyes turn into hearts because she loves her moose so much! Bakos really hit a home run on this one. Martha simply had too many moose. But can we ever have too many books? I hope not.
