The first volume of Sage included issues 1-6 and introduced us to some extremely memorable characters and a very deep, rich, complex plot that was just getting started. I am very pleased to say that not only did Saga volume 2 deliver, it was actually better. Consisting of issues 7-12, this was a non-stop roller coaster of emotions and gaped mouths from page one.
In total command of the story and the direction, Vaughn and Staples never waver. They know exactly what they are wanting to do and do it. The world building here only gets better and more complex and the side stories start slowly coming to the forefront. Everything that was good in volume 1 is made better in volume 2.
Perhaps my favorite thing about this whole series so far is the characters. Such vivid, outlandish characters that somehow work here. I wonder sometimes what could possibly have been said during the planning meeting that could've gotten some of these creatures the thumbs up, but it all works flawlessly.
Volume 3 should arrive today. I will devour it. Don't miss this series.
