I'm a big fan of Star Wars and I have seen these books in the bookstore for a while now. It wasn't until I saw them at my library that I decided, "Eh, why not?"
Brown paints a fun, yet slightly juvenile - though that is the target audience, of what Jedi Academy actually is. Told through a graphic novel style format with various other printed media sprinkled in, this is a must read for any casual, light-hearted Star Wars fan. I believe the hardcore Star Wars fanboys will get upset because it really doesn't take itself too seriously.
The illustrations are right on point and the dialogue is too. Centered around Roan, a young boy living on Tatooine who dreams of going to Pilot School but instead gets selected to attend the Jedi Academy, this book chronicles his adventures with girls, friends, and bullies and he tries his best to fit in and discover the Force inside.
I went on the read the sequel to this book which I enjoyed as well. Brown has written a third one and passed off the duties to someone else for the fourth in the series. Judging by how many they are releasing, I have to assume these books are successful and after reading the first two, I understand why.
I love to read and to discuss books. My preferred genre is sci-fi but I like to read mostly anything.
