An unnamed girl decides that she is going to build the most magnificent thing ever. She just needs a little help. So she enlists her puppy dog as her personal assistant and together they help each other build something magnificent! But when she discovers her invention isn't magnificent at all, she gets angry, breaks it, and storms off. However, she learns that what might not be magnificent for one person may be just what someone else is looking for.
Spires does a great job here with both text and illustrations. The drawings are mostly colored but with black and white backgrounds, something I'd never seen done before but I liked it. Also, as with most kids books, there's a lot of good messages here including managing your temper, appreciating what you have, and having determination. I'm sure this book will do quite well because of all of these factors. I know I enjoyed reading it. But as good as it was, the star here, in my opinion, was the dog. Absolutely adorable.
